[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-22 My trans daughter Lexi is driving in from her Blue State to celebrate Christmas, and I am very excited to soon see her. And so in the spirit of our recent Happy TRANS-giving, she has invited a few of her friends over for a Christmas celebration—friends who, for whatever reason, don’t have family with whom to celebrate or gather. A couple of them are trans folks (or gay or non-binary), and we know the holidays can be hard on transgender persons or those who are a little different with some families at Christmastime. This is especially ironic at a time when we celebrate the birth of the guy who accepted everyone, who “welcomed the stranger,” who hung out with those were different, or outcast, or looked down upon by most of society, but unfortunately there are some Christian families who reject their loved one’s identities, shun them, or feel compelled to misgender them to make a mean religious or political point. All of these young folks are accepting, loving, kind, witty and a real joy to be around. At a time of year when we celebrate the season by gifting presents, they gift us with their presence. We will listen to the Trans Siberian Orchestra’s Christmas CD, play games, sing “Trans Joy to the World,” and who knows—maybe TranSanta will show up. Merry Transmas, everyone!
