[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-23 Special Prosecutor Jack Smith petitioned the Supreme Court to make a fast ruling on the question of whether Donald Trump enjoys immunity from prosecution for acts committed while he was President. This is an obvious critical question that must be decided before multiple prosecutions can proceed. Primary elections starting within the next month are affected. Deciding NOW is urgent. There is no more important question before this court or any court. The Supreme Court response: The petition for a writ of certiorari before judgment is denied. They basically told us they will decide on their own time, national urgency be damned. They provided no rationale for their decision to do nothing now. The terseness of their response implies that they do not feel their decision needs explanation. They are supreme. Does the obviously correct decision (the President is not above the law) make some justices uncomfortable? Do they want to delay until after the 2024 election?
