[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-27 Conspiracy nuts are a peculiar lot. They are absolutely certain of things with no evidence whatsoever. How can you deal with such an individual when you meet one? Suppose that a conspiracy nut asserts to you that the government had John Ritter killed because he knew too much. You might ask why something this significant has not been reported by any reputable news outlets. The conspiracy nut will then tell you that it hasn’t been reported because it’s been covered up. If you ask for evidence, the conspiracy theorist will confidently insist that all of the evidence has been suppressed as part of the cover-up. So, how can you best respond to that? Like this: “Okay, Mister (or Miss) Conspiracy Nut: If every possible shred of evidence has been hidden from the public, how in the world did you find out about it? The only possible answer is that you are in on it! You helped kill John Ritter!” Actually, that’s not the only possible answer. The other possibility is that the conspiracy nut is crazy. While that is a more plausible explanation, you’ll have a lot more fun accusing the conspiracy nut of being directly involved in the conspiracy! When the conspiracy nut proclaims his or her innocence, keep asking: “If you’re so innocent, how could you possibly know so much about it?” I don’t know why I didn’t think of this a long time ago!
