Muslims Pushing to "Abandon Biden" Means Electing Trump [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-30 CNBC has this story up: Muslim leaders expand campaign to abandon Biden in 2024 over Israel-Hamas war: Muslim leaders announced on Saturday that they are going national with an effort to dissuade voters from reelecting President Joe Biden in 2024 due to his failure to call for a cease-fire in Gaza. The #AbandonBiden campaign officially began earlier in December, led by Muslim leaders in swing states like Michigan, Minnesota and Arizona, who disapproved of Biden’s support for Israel’s counterattacks against Hamas. The counterattacks have come at the cost of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian lives. Now, the coalition intends to expand the pressure campaign to all 50 states. “We will save America from itself, by punishing Biden at the ballot box,” said lead organizer Jaylani Hussein in a statement. BIden is in a delicate place with Israel and Gaza. He has limited influence on Netanyahu, and he has to work mostly behind the scenes; any public revelation of what pressure he might be bringing to bear would make the pressure useless. Plus Hamas is an existential threat to Israel. NOTE: This is NOT an I/P diary and I don’t want to make it into one. I despise Netanyahu and think he’s doing what he’s doing for his benefit only and it’s destructive to Israel. But that doesn’t change the point that Biden has to work with what he’s got. And it’s not the point of the diary. The point of the diary is that the actions of these Muslim leaders make no sense from their own perspective, Yes, Biden isn’t handling things well, especially as they see it. But any vote not cast for Biden (they have a third-party candidate they want to support) is a vote for Trump. And Trump will be death on Muslims in America. These Muslim leaders say they’ll take their chances: “There is a likelihood that our votes may weaken the Democrats that the Republicans may win,” Hussein said. “We’re not fools about that.” The #AbandonBiden campaign is willing to take that risk, he said: “We will risk an unknown four years of Trump.” But it’s not unknown, and they are fools. Trump vows to expand Muslim ban and bar Gaza refugees if he wins presidency (Oct 17, 2023) Doubling down on the hardline immigration policies that have long animated his base, Donald Trump on Monday vowed to bar refugees from Gaza and immediately expand his first-term Muslim travel ban if he wins a second term following the deadly attack on Israel last week. Trump, other Republicans call for travel restrictions, sparking new 'Muslim ban' fears (Nov 3, 2023) At least a dozen Republicans in Congress and two on the campaign trail – including former President Donald Trump – are calling for another so-called Muslim ban that could restrict travel to the U.S. from Muslim-majority countries. They've introduced legislation to bar Palestinian refugees and called on the president to revoke the visas of anyone supporting Hamas. Trump recommits to banning Muslims from entering US if he is re-elected (Apr 27, 2023) Donald Trump has vowed to restore a travel ban on Islamic nations, prohibiting citizens of those countries from entering the US, if he is elected president in 2024. "I will restore my travel ban to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of our country," the twice-impeached former president said in New Hampshire on Thursday. "You saw what happened. Four years… You saw that right? We were very tough on that. We don't want our buildings blown up." And maybe these Muslim leaders have forgotten that, when he was still president-elect, Trump wanted to establish a registry of Muslims in the US. And this is the guy they are willing to take a risk on? It was Trump who moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, angering Palestinians. It was — and is — Trump who thinks Netanyahu is his brother-in-arms. Netanyahu wants Trump back in office so he doesn’t have to worry about US pressuring him to work on a two-state solution. Yes, Trump attacked Netanyahu in 2020 because the Israeli prime minister recognized Biden as the legitimately elected president, and he also slammed Netanyahu’s intelligence failure over Hamas. Even so: Trump says he stands with Netanyahu after a barrage of GOP criticism for saying he ‘let us down’ Also, many of Trump’s backers are fundamentalist Christians who want things to get worse in the Middle East, because they think that will further fulfill their prophecies that the End Times are here and Jesus is coming back. Not exactly good for Muslims either in the US or in the Middle East. All because Biden isn’t perfect.
