[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-30 Morning Y’all, and welcome to another DownHeah edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. As we put 2023 in the rearview mirror, SMGB is heading into its 20th year here at DailyKos. So come on in, and share your 2024 garden plans! And bring pictures!! So, my year is divided into 2 seasons; Tomato & Pepper Season and Bama Football Season. With my beloved Crimson Tide in the running for another National Championship, I’m not yet in full garden planning mode. (But I have been thinking about it...) Big Beef is my main producer, and is a must grow variety every year. I’ll also be going forward with 2 segregates from the Sully line, the Sully Pink and Sully’s Dwarf Gina (named in honor of our own GCNY, who sent me the original Sully seeds...). More on The Sully Project HERE and HERE. This is why I grow Big Beef... Sully’s Dwarf Gina (formerly known as Sully Dwarf #3...) CWalter and I will be teaming up for a tomato grow out project from over at Doc’s, but we haven’t worked out the details as of yet… Aside from that, I’ve got seeds for too many tomato varieties to grow in the space I have available, so some hard choices are gonna have to be made. Over in The Pepper Patch, many of the usual suspects will make their return, including Prairie Spice, Jalapeño, Hinkelhatz and Rooster Spur. I’m catching a lot of heat, so to speak, from some hot freaks at work to grow more “superhots” this year. I have seeds for several varieties like Carolina Reaper, Scotch Bonnet and red Habanero; we’ll see… My 2 Fatalii Pepper plants are still blooming and producing fruit. I reckon I’ll just keep them overwintered until it’s warm enough for them to go back outside in the Spring... Outside recently getting some real sunshine... So, for now, my garden is slumbering under the Winter sun; but it’ll only be about 3 weeks before it’s time to start pepper seeds! Decisions, decisions... Ok folks, that’s about it from DownHeah this last Saturday of 2023. I’m hoping for a Bama win over Michigan on New Year’s Day, in which case we’ll play either Texas or Washington for The National Championship on January 8th. A Bama loss means that my garden planning will go into high gear on January 3rd. I’m hoping for January 10th...;/. I’m on The Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend for a late Christmas with my three Sons. The two eldest are active duty Military, so this is our 1st Christmas all together since 2018! I’ll pop in Saturday evening to check comments, so y’all play nice and let us know what’s going on in your gardens! My best to each and every one of you in the coming New Year! ~Peace~ [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/12/30/2213426/-Saturday-Morning-Garden-Blogging-Vol-19-52-Planning-for-the-Change-of-Seasons?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=trending&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
