The Week Ahead: UTEP, EPCC enrollment inches upward; Holocaust Museum observes Days of Remembrance [1] ['El Paso Matters Staff', 'El Paso Matters'] Date: 2023-04-14 This is your Friday update, which takes a quick look at the week ahead and some developments that El Paso Matters is following. UTEP, EPCC Spring Enrollment: The University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College reported modest increases in their spring 2023 enrollment. UTEP registered 22,584 students this spring as compared to 22,336 students last spring. That is a 1.1% increase. EPCC enrolled 22,647 students for the spring semester, which was 1.5% better than last spring when it registered 22,318 students. Both institutions are still below their 2019 pre-pandemic numbers when UTEP and EPCC enrolled 23,667 and 26,417 students, respectively. Holocaust Days of Remembrance: The El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center will commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Days of Remembrance) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Temple Mount Sinai, 4408 N. Stanton Street. There is no charge to attend. Each year, museums, community organizations, schools and military units commemorate the cataclysmic events of the Holocaust, memorialize the millions of victims and honor the survivors through special observance programs. The holocaust museum’s 2023 theme, “Light From Darkness,” is in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Resistance took many forms – physical, cultural and spiritual. Through poetry, memoirs, music and art, people defied the Nazi effort to dehumanize and eradicate identity, hope and strength. Free Vaccinations for Children: As part of National Infant Immunization Week, which is April 24-30, the city of El Paso is offering free vaccines to eligible children 5 years and under on April 26. The free vaccines will be administered by appointment from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ysleta Health Center, 110 Candelaria Road; Henderson Health Center, 721 S. Mesa St.; and El Paso Drive-IZ Clinic, 5115 El Paso Dr., Suite B-Room 1. Appointments can be made by calling 915-212-6555. The vaccines available will be for diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis; haemophilus influenza, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, measles, mumps and rubella, pneumococcal 1, polio, rotavirus and varicella.
