The Week Ahead: Bi-National Border Mass is Saturday; time change is Sunday; City Council election is Dec. 9. [1]

This is your weekly update, which takes a quick look at the week ahead and some developments that El Paso Matters is following.

Border Mass is Saturday: The dioceses of El Paso, Juárez and Las Cruces will gather Saturday for the 26th annual Bi-National Border Mass, which will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on the banks of the Rio Grande near the Executive Center Boulevard and Paisano Drive intersection, which is where the states of Texas, New Mexico and Chihuahua, Mexico meet. Since 1997, the three dioceses have been coming together to pray for the migrants that have lost their lives attempting to migrate into the United States. The bishops of Juárez and Las Cruces will concelebrate the Mass.

Four Candidates Aim to Replace City Rep. Alexsandra Annello: Four candidates are vying to fill the seat vacated by city Rep. Alexsandra Annello in the Dec. 9 special election for District 2 to represent parts of Central and Northeast El Paso. The candidates are Veronica “Vero” Carbajal, an attorney who previously ran for mayor; Judy Gutierrez, a former city staffer for District 2 that previously ran for the seat; Josh Acevedo, an El Paso Independent School District board member who resigned his position to run for City Council; and Ben Mendoza, a mediator that previously ran for the EPISD school board seat once held by Acevedo. Annello resigned from her seat after she announced in October she was going to run for the office of Texas State Rep. District 77. Early voting will run from Nov. 27 through Dec. 5.

Time to Fall Back: Daylight saving time ends Sunday as El Pasoans, and most of the nation, move their clocks back an hour at 2 a.m. Daylight saving time, the time-honored tradition of moving clocks forward in the spring to allow for longer days with sunlight, ends on the first Sunday in November and starts on the second Sunday in March.
