Seven contract soldiers in Russia’s Far East sent to prison for refusing to fight in Ukraine — Meduza [1] [] Date: 2024-01-20 A military court in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city in Russia’s Far East, sentenced seven contract soldiers to up to 2.5 years in a penal colony for refusing to fight in Ukraine, reports independent media outlet Mediazona, citing the court’s press service. The servicemen were found guilty of failing to carry out an order during wartime. All seven soldiers refused to fight in Ukraine in the summer and fall of 2023. According to Mediazona, Russian military courts received 421 cases of failing to carry out orders and 5,024 cases of unauthorized abandonment in 2023.
