Ukraine’s POW Coordination Headquarters has confirmed that the 65 Ukrainian POWs from the list published by RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan were to be part of a prisoner exchange on January 24.

After the crash, Simonyan posted a list of Ukrainian POWs allegedly on board the Il-76 plane.

At the same time, relatives of the POWs, who were shown a video from the crash site published by Russian sources, said they did not see any sign of their loved ones among the bodies. Ukraine's military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov noted that there is still no reliable information confirming that there were so many people on the plane.

The day before, Ukraine’s human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets also stated that videos and photos from the crash site did not appear to indicate such a high number of casualties. “If the Russians had some kind of photos or videos that could show that our POWs were there, then they would’ve used them already,” he said.
