Apartment building in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don, declared hazardous in 2020, partially collapses — Meduza [1] [] Date: 2024-01-28 Part of an apartment building in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don collapsed, reports local news outlet 161.ru. According to local officials, 95 people had to be evacuated. No one was injured in the incident. The building, constructed in 1963, had been declared hazardous and marked for demolition in 2020. However, residents turned down offers of temporary housing, which they say were not extended to everyone, only to those “who actively pursued the matter with the authorities.” 161.ru reports that the authorities took their time in addressing the issue and only conducted a housing assessment examination at the end of 2023. The Russian Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor’s Office have opened investigations into the incident.
