Russia targets Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in massive missile attack — Meduza [1] [] Date: 2024-05-08 Early Wednesday, Russia conducted a large-scale missile attack across Ukraine, injuring civilians and causing significant damage to residential buildings, as well as civilian and energy infrastructure, according to the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces. Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported that the strikes targeted electricity generation and transmission facilities in Ukraine’s Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia regions. The Ukrainian energy company DTEK said that Russia hit three of their thermal power stations, causing serious damage to equipment. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that the attacks affected seven regions, hitting energy facilities, approximately 30 residential buildings, public transport, vehicles, and a fire and rescue station in Zaporizhzhia. According to preliminary information, three people were injured: two in the Kyiv region, and a child in the Kirovohrad region. The missile strikes came as Ukraine marked the anniversary of the formal surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allied forces in 1945.
