First Shipment of NATO Temporary Housing Arrives in Türkiye [1]

When established and combined with a subsequent shipment, the NATO temporary housing will provide capacity to shelter 4,000 people.

The shipment of NATO temporary housing was expedited to Türkiye in response to a formal request on February 9.

While the temporary housing is normally deployed on a 90-day timeline, the shipment was expedited by NATO Support and Procurement Agency.

NATO normally uses this temporary housing capability (CP 156) as deployable headquarters during exercises and operations and it is equipped with a range of services such as heating, power generators and medical care.

Today marks a significant milestone in the delivery of NATO temporary housing for the people affected by the earthquakes in Türkiye. NATO has worked tirelessly to expedite the delivery of this capability,

said Admiral Munsch.

Members of JFC Naples’ liaison and reconnaissance team gave Admiral Munsch a detailed update on the progress so far. The teams have for days, been working elbow to elbow with the local authorities to provide support and coordinate the set-up of the temporary housing.

JFC Naples is also coordinating the NATO strategic airlift of donated tents from Pakistan to Türkiye. The first C17 transport aircraft leased by Sweden through the SAC (Strategic Airlift Capability*) programme to haul an initial shipment of 500 tents to Türkiye landed in Incirlik on 21 February 2023.

Several NATO allies and many partners are providing individual assistance at the national bi-lateral level.
