JFC Brunssum Commander visits NATO Troops in Latvia [1] [] Date: 2023-03 BRUNSSUM, the Netherlands - General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFC Brunssum), made a two-day trip to Latvia where he visited Headquarters Multinational Division North (HQ MND-N) and enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Latvia, 20th and 21st March 2023. We need to stand strong, remain united and vigilant He began his tour at HQ MND-N, located at the Ādaži military camp in the town of Pierīga. After a warm welcome from HQ MND-N Commander, Major General Flemming Mathiasen, Gen. Miglietta addressed a gathering of division staff officers where he highlighted the importance of MND-North’s contributions to NATO's commitment to peace. "The strengthening of our forces in this region is essential for a strong deterrence against any possible aggressor,” Gen Miglietta said, in a briefing with HQ MND-N senior leadership. “We need to stand strong, remain united and vigilant.” General Miglietta then took the opportunity to meet with personnel of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Latvia, who were deployed in the field. He reminded the battlegroup senior staff what NATO stands for, and that the enhanced Forward Presence is critically important to the security of the Alliance. Gen. Miglietta closed by thanking Battlegroup personnel for their dedication, for their service to their homeland, and for their outstanding support to NATO. HQ MND-N The main task of Multinational Division North (HQ MND N) is to command military operations within its area of responsibility. To do so, the Division Headquarters plans and commands military operations, plans and integrates the activity of NATO units deployed for the purpose of reinforcing regional security, as well as organises training at the headquarters level in accordance with national and NATO defence plans. The framework countries of Multinational Division North are Estonia, Latvia and Denmark. Elements of the Division’s headquarters are mainly located in Ādaži, Latvia, as well as in Karup, Denmark. The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia NATO’s multinational eFP battlegroup in Latvia aims at boosting defence and deterrence capabilities in the eastern part of the Alliance territory. The presence of the battlegroup is sending an unmistakable signal about the unwavering resolve of NATO members to consider an attack on one Ally as an attack on the whole Alliance of 30 members. NATO Enhanced Forward Presence is defensive in nature, proportionate to the challenge and fully in line with NATO’s international commitments.
