Spanish ship calls at Tunisian port during NATO Operation Sea Guardian in the Mediterranean Sea [1]

The Offshore Patrol Vessel spent two days in port, during which time a delegation of young Tunisian officers boarded the Furor to witness a dynamic demonstration on the flight deck. This included a damage control exercise, carried out by members of the crew, and an “exercise of movements in reduced spaces”, carried out by the on-board Security Operations Team.

The young officers then toured the ship, which included a brief by the Commanding Officer about Operation Sea Guardian. Senior officers from the Tunisian Navy joined the delegation for lunch in the Officers’ Mess, where discussions focused on the cooperative approach to maritime security and maritime priorities shared by both parties to strengthen security in the region.

Operation Sea Guardian is NATO’s maritime security operation in the Mediterranean and is presently conducting three maritime security tasks: maritime security capacity building, support to maritime situational awareness and maritime counter-terrorism.

Operation Sea Guardian is under the operational command of Allied Maritime Command in Northwood, United Kingdom, which serves as the Alliance’s hub for maritime security information sharing.
