Behind the Uniform - Meet Polish Captain Pietrzak [1]

Meet Captain Pietrzak with the Polish Armed Forces. We asked him questions about who he is, his military career and what he will be doing during exercise Brilliant Jump 2024.

1. Where are you from?

I am from Warsaw, the capital and largest city in Poland.

2. How long have you been in the military? Why did you join?

I have been in the military for 11 years. I joined to test and improve myself. I also like to train in a multinational environment and as you can see, I have the opportunity to do just that, right now.

3. What do you find exciting about being in the military?

The most exciting thing for me is being able to operate very heavy and dangerous equipment. Driving it, shooting from it. For example, experiencing and operating a tanker. For me, this is very cool.

4. What is your job in the military and what will you be doing during this exercise?

I am a liaison officer at the Brigade Headquarters but normally I am a Tank Company Commander. The 4th Tank Company from the 1st Tank Battalion in Warsaw.

5. What is the best thing about the military?

From an officer’s perspective, you can command your subordinates and conduct multi missions that your superiors tell you to do.

6. Have you deployed before?

No, I have never been deployed and this is the first time I have been involved in a NATO exercise like this.

7. Are you enjoying this opportunity to exercise in a NATO environment?

Yes, I am really enjoying this experience especially getting to know soldiers from other nations. Sharing our knowledge and simply improving ourselves to be better.

8. What do you like to do in your spare time?



I like spending time with my family and friends, reading books, watching movies. Basic stuff. I also enjoy volleyball, but my favourite sport is martial arts.
