Safe and Sustainable Water in Cities [1] [] Date: 2022-11 Over the next four decades, virtually all global population growth will occur in cities. Urbanization results from natural population increases among city dwellers, rural-to-urban migration, and administrative reclassification through expanding urban boundaries. Each form of city growth has effects on the quality and availability of fresh water in the urban watershed, rates of groundwater recharge, infiltration, runoff, and discharge of pollutants, including microbial pollutants and emergent contaminants. This call for papers invites submissions from researchers and practitioners in any field or sector that contribute new insights to the theme of fresh water in cities, with particular emphasis on pollution and water quality. We particularly encourage submissions from authors who utilize open science resources such as data and code repositories, and from communities whose voices are historically under-represented in the freshwater field.
