Will Hurd posted a video on his social media accounts that delivered a frank message to his former colleagues. Noting that the insurrection happened on the second day of the new congressional term, he called out members who downplayed the danger of that day. "Not only was it new members of Congress, it was a new staff," he said. "So, imagine a 23-year old, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, excited, 'I'm here to help my hometown congressman,' and you're like, 'What the — this is like we're in an ambush, this is an insurrection.'" Hurd made the remarks during an interview July 16 but opted to post his thoughts as Capitol Hill was still processing Tuesday's testimony. "We put so many young men and women, who get crap pay, right?" he added. "That do so much for our country and for those members of Congress that want to act like that was a normal day? Is insane. It's insane. It was an insurrection." Hurd, a former undercover CIA officer, went on to blame former President Donald Trump for what happened. "It was encouraged," he said. "Those flames were fanned by President Trump, and we also should be looking at why was the people that were doing our business, why were they not better protected?" — Abby Livingston [END] [1] URL: https://mailchi.mp/texastribune/the-blast-texas-lege-black-caucus-meets-with-civil-rights-leaders-in-washington Republishing Guidelines: URL:https://www.texastribune.org/republishing-guidelines/ via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/texastribune/
