• Virginia budget negotiators said there won’t be a deal on a new spending bill prior to the end of the current fiscal year on June 30, meaning lawmakers will have to return for a special session later in the summer in order to make adjustments to how tax dollars are spent. Expressing frustration over the impasse, Gov. Glenn Youngkin said he’s “getting to the point where I am running out of patience.”—Richmond Times-Dispatch

• House Appropriations Chairman Barry Knight, R-Virginia Beach, said he agreed to delay the budget talks until after the tough primary election facing his budget negotiations counterpart, Sen. George Barker, D-Fairfax. Barker, who lost last week, denied that his primary was a factor.—Associated Press
