Jeremy Diamond of CNN reports that “ten year old Shahed and ten other Al-Maghazi refugee camp children were slaughtered by an Israeli drone that fired a precision-guided munition on April 16, 2024. While playing foosball next to a cake shop at the camp, her pink pants served to identify her body. British weapons experts who analysed the case concluded that the sophisticated circuit board found at the site enabled them to distinguish the munition. Israel contends that it would only employ such weapons after surveilling the target first, but has not taken responsibility for the strike.” The indiscriminate and disproportionate bombing in Gaza aided by Lavender A-I clearly suggests otherwise. “For sixteen days following the strike, a little boy, Ahmed, finally succumbed to his injuries, a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage.” Read the report here: www.cnn.com/...

Many of the college protesters are deeply moved and saddened by the sheer scale of the tragedy in Gaza and would like nothing more than a reevaluation of and halt to the arms transfers that enable it. Although such entreaties appear to fall upon deaf ears in Washington, the universities who profit from direct investments in such arms manufacturing firms could disinvest from those assets. It is a conversation that University administrators should welcome with their student representatives. Universities are not-for-profit organisations that would benefit from the concept of the “double bottom line”—do good and do well.
