MTG Reveals Inferiority Complex In ‘Fake Eyelashes’ Comment [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-05-17 Marjorie Taylor Greene has, arguably, descended into new lows for uncivil behavior. And that’s saying something, since her general standard is already rock-bottom. During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Greene accused Rep. Jasmine Crockett of wearing fake eyelashes. As if that had anything to do with anything. As reported by The Hill, Greene’s remark caused a drawn-out commotion in the hearing: The comment — which was made during a markup to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress — prompted nearly an hour of disorder in the committee, with lawmakers screaming over one another and hurling insults left and right, leaving Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) struggling to maintain order. Even Lauren Boebert—not exactly a role model of seemliness—voted against allowing Greene to continue after the eyelashes comment. As I see it, the comment by MTG was more than just yet another instance of her Trump-like lack of emotional maturity. Because if anybody asked me (m), I’d have to say that Jasmine Crockett is very beautiful. MTG’s comment thus seems to be, at least partially, animated by envy, since she isn’t anywhere near the same league as Crockett in that respect. Among countless other respects as well, to be sure... Thus, in my opinion, what the comment by MTG demonstrates is not only her low level of civility, which has already been amply documented in the past; it also exposes a deep-seated feeling of inferiority. Such feelings can easily emerge during moments of agitation that have nothing to do with the topic of discussion. In fact, GOP politicians, especially of the MAGA variety, often seem to harbor a sense of their own inferiority but try to make up for their perceived lack by means of juvenile behavior. MTG is a classic example. In theory, a politician‘s physical attributes shouldn’t matter. While some people do vote for candidates based on their appearance, that really shouldn’t influence our voting decisions. Yet in the real world, and especially in today’s image-heavy media, looks do have an effect. So if Jasmine Crockett gained some voters due to her beauty, that’s not a bad thing—because her politics are progressive and good. And that’s what counts.
