Top Comments: Inadvertent Nap Edition [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-03 I had a lot to do today, and I was on a roll! I took the pup for a lovely morning walk, and then did my shift as a Rescue Ranger. I then settled in on the couch to catch up on the news for a little while… and then realized (1) my neck and shoulders were screaming from the position I was in; (2) the pup was no longer where he’d “just” been; and (3) it was 90min later than I expected it to be. I’d just been the victim of an Inadvertent Napping. I don’t usually nap during the day. In fact, when I was recovering from Covid last year, one of the ways I knew I was NOT fully recovered despite testing negative was the frequency with which I would nap during the day. I would be sitting on the couch, and wake up an hour later curled up. It only lasted a month or so, but it was very clear I *needed* that sleep. Since 2020 I’ve used a fitness tracker to monitor my sleep patterns, and while my sleep was significantly less good in 2020 (stress? something big going on?), even in a GOOD stretch I get on average 6-6.5hrs sleep a night. It’s not for lack of trying, and I’ve written here and elsewhere about the myriad things I’ve tried to increase that amount. But even so, I nap very irregularly; instead, my body has the occasional 9hr ‘catch-up’ night. Today’s nap left me feeling much more awake but I hope it isn’t going to impact my getting TO sleep later tonight. How about you? Are you a napper, or do you generally confine sleep to your usual bedtime hours? Come to the comfy couches in the Comments Section (just past the Trio of Top Comments, Pictures and Mojo) and either grab a few Zzzzzs or tell us about your napping patterns!
