Trump's Felony Convictions Are Good News For Joe Biden [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-03 The underlying premise for the mainstream media’s coverage of the election is that Trump is strong and Biden is weak. They base this false narrative on junk polls from the NY Times and CNN. Many other reputable polls show either a tied race or Joe Biden leading. The mainstream press has buried those polls. The NY Times columnist Nate Cohn admitted that its false narrative that Trump leads is based upon people who don’t vote. “Disengaged voters are driving the overall polling results and the story line about the election.” This is just staggering. You can just disregard the NY Times’ junk polls. Now the “conventional wisdom” from the mainstream media and elite pundits is that Trump’s thirty four felony convictions won’t change the trajectory of the election or that the effect is simply unknowable. In making that erroneous conclusion, the pundits are ignoring a mountain of empirical evidence. A simple google search is all that is necessary to rebut this false narrative. Nikki Haley: “There is no way that the American people are going to vote for a convicted criminal. They’re not.” Her endorsement of Trump was poorly timed and makes her look foolish — she should have waited a few more days until after the jury returned its verdict. The reality is that lot of polling shows that a conviction is bad news for Trump. Three post-verdict polls have now been released, and each shows President Biden now leading convicted felon Donald Trump. It looks like the conventional wisdom that this would have no effect on the election has already been proven wrong: Morning Consult: was Trump +2 (42–44) -> now Biden +1 (45–44) IPSOS: was Tied (40–40) -> now Biden +2 (41–39) Echelon: was Tied (47–47) -> now Biden +2 (49–47) Three polls since Trump’s felony conviction have shown movement for Joe Biden. A brand new Morning Consult poll taken after the guilty verdict indicates that 49% of Independents and 15% of Republicans said Trump should end his campaign because of the conviction. That is devastating for Trump. A new public survey by ABC News and Ipsos made the following findings after Trump’s felony conviction: 49% of Americans say Trump should end his campaign 52% of independents say Trump should end his campaign 16% of independents say Trump should end his campaign “The exit polls from the Republican Primary repeatedly showed that about a third of GOP primary voters would see Trump as unfit if convicted. In a poll from earlier this year, Gallup asked respondents about their willingness to vote for certain types of presidential candidates. Only 29% said they would vote for a candidate charged with a felony and only 23% said they would vote for someone convicted of a felony.” The above is from Dan Pfeiffer — a former adviser to President Obama. “In November, a New York Times/Siena College poll found President Joe Biden trailing Trump in five key battleground states, but those deficits turned to advantages when voters were asked about a possible Trump criminal conviction. In December, a national YouGov poll found Biden and Trump tied. The same poll, however, found Biden with a seven-point advantage in response to a potential Trump criminal conviction. In January, a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll found more than half of swing-state voters wouldn’t vote for Trump if he were convicted of a crime. In February, an NBC News poll found Trump with a five-point lead over Biden, but if Trump was found guilty and convicted of a felony, the Democratic incumbent had a two-point lead. Around the same time, an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll also showed Biden gaining several points as a result of a Trump conviction. In April, a Marquette University Law School poll showed an eight-point swing in Biden’s direction in the event of a Trump conviction. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released around the same time pointed in a very similar direction. And in May, the latest NPR/PBS News Hour Marist poll found, “Roughly 1 in 6 voters (17%) said a guilty verdict would make them less likely to vote for Trump.” The above is from Steve Benen of the Maddow Blog. “The Trump conviction comes at a critical moment in the campaign, and not just because polling suggests it will influence a significant share of swing voters. Trump’s entire persona is built around the facade that he is a powerful strongman, impervious to attacks and solely capable of defending his followers. Now he stands for election as a convict, a weak man too cowardly to take the stand who was bested by a local district attorney.” Jennifer Rubin. These polls have followed on the heels of a string of Democratic electoral victories dating back to 2018. Trump’s only win in 2016 was a fluke that was instigated by James Comey and Vladimir Putin. Trump and the Republicans have been on a historic losing streak since 2018. There is an anti-MAGA majority outside of the red states. “We gained ground in 2022, winning a Senate seat, 2 governorships, 4 state legislative chambers and keeping the House close enough to make more likely we win it back this time. In 2023 we took away a Supreme Court seat in Wisconsin, two of the largest GOP held cities in America — Colorado Springs and Jacksonville, the Ohio abortion ban, the Virginia Assembly, and state senate and house seats in special elections all across the country. In 2024 we took away NY-3 in February, and continue to win special elections across the US. In all these elections since Dobbs we just keep overperforming expectations and winning, and they keep struggling, and losing. There has been one strong party — us — and one very weak party — them.” Simon Rosenberg. Trump has never once gotten more votes than his political opponent. Ever. And under his stewardship, the Republican Party has had historic electoral defeats in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023. The Democratic winning streak has continued into 2024. It’s shameful for the Republican party to nominate a convicted felon for the most powerful office in the land. Deb Fischer, Pete Ricketts, Mike Flood, Don Bacon and Adrian Smith have endorsed a criminally convicted felon for President and enabled this lawlessness. That level of judgement has no place in the United States Congress. This is about putting country above party. “The amazing thing is they contort themselves and sell what is left of their souls for an absolutely shitty vote getter. Failed to reach 47% of the vote twice and in 2018 and 2022 he was the driving force that led to GOP electoral disaster.” David Plouffe. Numerous elite pundits in the mainstream press have written about how the Democratic convention should replace Biden because he is two years older than Trump and allegedly trails him by one point in the polls. No pieces have called for the GOP to dump proven fraudster, rapist, and convicted felon Donald Trump. It’s the GOP that needs a Plan B. I’m convinced that the bottom will fall out for the GOP in October and we will win big. Trump and the MAGA Republicans are just too extreme. In addition, Trump has so much personal baggage. Swing voters will break heavily for the Democrats. Be confident going forward. Take nothing for granted. Keep working hard. It’s America or Trump, the convicted felon. Choose wisely.
