Why a felony conviction is good for Trump [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-03 You’ve heard the pundit say that a felony conviction is good for Trump. You’ve heard Trump surrogates say it. And yet, it defies reason. WTF, Trumpies? Well, here it is in orange-and-white. Trump does not believe that he is going to prison. Most people might concede that a guy who stole nuclear secrets and the names of deep cover operatives might have something to trade for cigarettes and extra ramen, even if he does go to Rikers. He has been pretty quiet with the documents thing, but it is always there in the background, even if — and, really *because* — he doesn’t think he is ever going to see those charges. So, leaving aside prison as a “con”, what are the “pro”s of being convicted? Money. Money, money, and more money. And lots of it. Moooooooooooooolah. Right now, Trump is saying (and, as always, take Trump with a shaker of salt), that he took in $141m in May, with $53m coming in the days after the verdict. Trump’s suckers are kinda sucked out. They’ve lost a fortune in the stock market. All the fundraising appeals have amounted to bupkes. Until NOW. NOW, TRUMP (the billionaire and Very Successful Business Man[tm]) NEEDS YOUR HELP, OH, LOW INFORMATION LOW WAGE WORKER IN THE RURAL AREAS OF A RED STATE. And, *now* the pocketbooks and wallets are pouring out their pennies. Or, so Trump would want us to believe. THIS ISN’T ABOUT GETTING NEW VOTERS. THIS IS ABOUT GETTING MORE MONEY. And, maybe, who knows?, the money can translate into voters downstream. IF he invests that money in a ground game, or field offices. But, more importantly, the money translates into MONEY. He isnt “losing” to Biden anymore in the ONE area that he cares about. Ooooh, that chapped his nips losing the money game to Biden. Ooooh, yeah, that one hurt. Look, he doesnt care about who wins or loses. Not really. If he loses (and let’s hope that he loses BIGLY), he will take his thugs to DC or wherever else and see if he can’t finish the job he started on J6. Cuz that’s where he’s going with this. His subtlety is underwhelming. In the meantime, he isn’t losing anymore. Not the money game. And, his campaign can afford to take him and Eric and Ivanka and all his loser-family out to dinner somewhere where they serve the bestest taco salads on gold plates.
