[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-05 Every time I think I have heard it all there is some Republican Congress(wo)man who manages to amp it up just a little notch. This time it happened at an event called Congress, Cognac and Cigars in Philadelphia, where two Congressmen from Texas and Florida tried to educate the electorate about the reason why Republicans struggle to promote conservatism in the Black community. Probably they couldn’t find some Republican Rep from Pennsylvania who was willing to humiliate themselves to such an extent and as there are no black members of the Republican Pennsylvania House Delegation they had to take some from as far away as possible so that they wouldn't be laughed at on the street when they returned home. Let’s start with Texas Congressman Wesley Hunt: The reason why the Democrats have a hold on the Black community is because our parents’ parents’ parents keep telling us, ‘You gotta vote Democrat,’” Hunt said. “It is up to us in this generation to say, ‘Well, why? If I read that right he must be talking about the great-grandparents of the black community, who must in his case be at least 100 years. I don't know how many blacks would have voted for the Democratic Party in the forties if they were allowed to vote in the first place. But probably in Texas, where the sky is bluer and the land wider, things have been much different than elsewhere in the US. His colleague Byron Donalds from Florida had equally brilliant insights to offer: ”First of all, there’s a difference between men and women anyway,” Donalds said. “Men have been created by god to be conquerors, to be hunters. That’s who they are. And so a Black man in today’s America is looking around and saying, ‘How can I go hunt for my people and hunt for my family?’ … They’re looking at what Joe Biden has done and saying, ‘I can’t hunt! You took my spear. You took my bow.’” I'm surprised he couldn't manage to get a few references to watermelon and fried chicken into his analogy to paint an even more colorful picture of the black community. But at least he was aware that there is a difference between men and women. After that the usual transgender and immigrant bashing followed: “Black women,” he said, “are looking at their sons and saying, ‘Now, wait a minute. You’re telling me that my young son can become a girl? Nope. You’re telling me that my son and my daughter who need an education now have to go and be less than because of illegal immigrants in the city of Philadelphia? Nope.’” Seems like in his view black women are not concerned about the young girls wanting to become men. Yet with that the end of his wisdom wasn't reached by far. Lamenting the Democratic policies during the Civil Rights Movement that brought Black voters to vote for Democrats (civil rights legislation, the creation of Medicaid for low-income Americans, expansion of federal food stamps, welfare, housing, all terribly socialist and society-destroying programs), the following brain fart escaped him: “You see, during Jim Crow, the Black family was together. During Jim Crow, more Black people were not just conservative — Black people have always been conservative-minded — but more Black people voted conservatively,” he said. “And then H.E.W., Lyndon Johnson — you go down that road, and now we are where we are,” he added, referring to the former U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. So, the black family was together. It probably had no choice but to stay together, as it was not allowed to sit wherever it wanted on the bus and had to make sure that elsewhere it only sat where there was a small sign saying “colored”. But somehow, he's not entirely wrong. It's similar to juvenile delinquency. No one can deny that it has risen sharply since children no longer have to work ten hours a day in a mine. Or accidents at work among women. There wouldn't have been anything like that in the past because women had to stay at home. Or take the number of car accidents caused by women in Saudi Arabia. A few years ago, the rate was practically zero. Electoral fraud among women was unknown before 1920. Vaccination deaths have only existed since 1800 and deaths from antibiotic intolerance were non-existent in the Middle Ages. Oh, I could go on like this for hours. Sorry if I drifted off into sarcasm towards the end, but sometimes that's the only way to put up with people like that without running away screaming and breaking something.
