D Day in pictures [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-05 Other diaries have covered D Day, but this particular set of pictures in the Guardian really shows how a pivotal point in the past is becoming ancient history. The ceremonies need to be a reminder, not just a ceremony. My parents signed up to fight a world gone wrong. The people where I live recognise the significance of that past event. How can we not do likewise and, fighting fascim, secure our future? Obligatory cat story: my dad was in the base mess hall in Norman, Oklahoma when a man came in with a large red tomcat perched on his shoulder. Someone tried to tell him that cats weren't allowed in the mess hall. He said, "This cat came ashore with us at Omaha Beach and lived over it. He can go wherever the hell he wants." I see Ukrainian soldiers and their cats and often think of this.
