Welcome to the Weekly Fiction WIP Thread! This is a weekly community diary for writers here on Daily Kos to showcase microfiction, ongoing serialized stories, and pieces of larger works in progress. Feel free to post your works below in a comment! I will be out tonight at a meeting and returning a few hours later to follow up.

Part of any ongoing narrative is the setting. If a story is going to keep going, at some point we’re going to need to know where we are, and what everything is. Most of us fiction writers have tried our hand at worldbuilding. It’s a complicated labor of love, that often involves going deep into some truly strange rabbit holes. I’ve got books on everything from orbital mechanics to unabridged dictionaries to treatises on grammar to volcanology, and all those and more I bought specifically to write more about a pretend place. There’s a lot of rich discussion material there for those who have similar interests, and it might be a good companion to the workshop and personal improvement origins of this series’ mother series.
