Daily Bucket:Friday Sequence; Parrots from our Belize trip [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-07 Parrots are exotic birds. Seeing them in the wild indicates to me that I am not in Washington any more. On our recent trip to Belize, Ms. JG and I were alerted by others that a pair of parrots were perched on a tree branch. The result of that observation is what makes the first part of this Bucket. As usual, I will let the photos do the talking. I don’t know much about parrots, but I thought that this would give Besame and a few others a chance to share their birds. These are Red-lored Parrots, I think. One Parrot joins another on a branch close to our lodging at Bird’s Eye View Lodge in Belize. At first they just hung out together. They are looking for a nesting site. You can just imagine what one is telling the other. “What do you think of these digs, Honey?” “Oh, I don’t know. I’m not sure about this one.” “Let’s groom.” ”Sounds good to me!” “How about here?” “I’ll just clean some of these feathers for you.” ”You are doing a great job, Sweetie.” “Can’t forget to clean your toes, too.” “Enough for now. I’m going to check out another branch.” End of sequence. I immediately thought of a Friday Sequence when I watched this behavior. A Yellow-headed Parrot on a branch. And in flight. An Olive-throated Parakeet in a tree with blossoms. They can reach way down to get the seeds at the base of the blossoms or even pull the blossoms toward themselves with one claw as they hold on to the branch with the other. This shows the part of the blossom that they eat. So end another adventure in Belize. Anyone else ever see a parrot except Lenny and Besame and several others in our group? Share and share alike. Join in the fun.
