Caturday Pootie Diary: Summer Planning [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-08 “Its officially summer,” I told my cat, opening the browser on my phone. “And you know what that means.” “I barely know what summer is,” Freddie said, yawning. “It’s going to be a hot one, but we’ll keep cool. I’ll go swimming and you’ll do whatever it is you do.” I thought about it. “Ignore me, mostly.” “Alright,” he said, “Whatever.” “Also, it’s not officially summer,” I added. A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul. Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community. Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people. Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw. “Swimming is when you go into the water bowl in the backyard and get all wet?” he asked. “Yes. It’s very refreshing.” I looked at him, thoughtfully. “You might like it.” “No,” he said, immediately. “Yeah,” I agreed. “That’s not a good idea.” “We should plan some summer activities,” I suggested. “What would you like to do this summer?” I asked him, watching as he carefully groomed his fur. He paused, tounge poking out. “We should eat tuna,” he said finally, then went back to his bath. “That’s not really a summer specific activity,” I said. “Maybe we should go to the beach.” “I don’t like to leave the house,” he reminded me. “Right,” I said, tapping my finger against my lips in thought. “Plus I don’t like going to the beach.” "There’s going to be a fair, but you can’t really go to that. Too many dogs.” He growled a little. “Also you don’t like to leave the house.” “That too,” he agreed. “What do cats do during the summer?” I wondered. “Sleep,” he said. I rolled my eyes. “Maybe a project is what we need,” I said, thoughtfully. “What’s a project?” he asked, but not like he was really interested. “It’s when you make something or improve something,” I said, looking around. “Maybe we can paint in here.” “You can do that,” he said, climbing onto my lap. I adjusted my position a little to give him more room. “I’m going to lie right here.” I petted him. “It’s hard to do a project with you on my lap,” I told him. “You should do a project from the couch,” he advised. “The only project I can do like this is a nap.” He yawned, showing all the teeth in his mouth. “Let’s do that,” he said. Some time later, I woke up, sweaty and confused. Freddie was dropped across my lap and I was reminded how close to summer it really was. “We took a nap,” I croaked. Freddie stretched, his paws crossed over his face, then relaxed, a happy kitty smile on his face. “We sure did,” he said. “We can’t do this all summer,” I said. “Why not?” “I should at least water the plants,” I said, looking out the window. “Plants can take care of themselves,” he said. I frowned at him. “Not really,” I said. “They aren’t local plants so they need some care.” I looked out the window again. “Lotta empty pots out there. Maybe that’ll be our project. Do you want to help me fix up the backyard?” “Sure,” he said, standing to stretch again. “Really?” He sat on the footrest between my calves and stared at me. “I’ll supervise from my bed,” he said. “Right.” “So your plans for summer are to eat tuna and sleep in your bed,” I summarized. “Not just that,” he said. “No?” “I’m also going to sleep on your bed. And the couch. And the cat tree. And probably the floor.” “It’s going to be a fun filled summer,” I said. “Sure is.” Happy Caturday, Peeps! Freddie and I have big plans this summer. Mostly they involve him sleeping and hiding from the ducks.
