GOTV starts now. [1]

Hey, all,

Sadly, this election is likely to be close. I wish we were headed for a sure thing blow out, but it doesn’t look that way. There’s an enormous amount at stake, of course. We all know that; however, lots of voters don’t. Judges, senators, state legislatures, local government, the House...yes, the president. Dear God, yes, the presidency.

I know Kos readers are all busy doing what we can. The purpose of this diary is to urge people to START NOW writing GOTV letters. Why start now? So you can write lots of them! Because, by starting now, you can spread the cost of postage out instead of buying a lot of stamps in October!

I’ve written about six hundred letters and postcards so far. Most are for Vote Forward and won’t be sent until October. However, I have written a couple hundred for special elections and primary campaigns. I recently sent in 20 for a special election in Ohio and I’m nearly done with 200 for Montana through Tony the Democrat’s postcard campaigns.

I buy stamps weekly at the grocery and sometimes in bulk online. I write about fifty letters or postcards a week.

In addition, I have monthly donations to a short list of GOTV organizations that target populations that need help fighting their way through voter suppression or other obstacles.
