One Question [1]

With elections coming up office seekers are out with their clipboards. I know some folks try to avoid and brush them off but I enjoy the process. Maybe it is because over the last twenty or so years I’ve developed a one question answer to whether I sign or not.

Today on my morning walk I saw a car up ahead pull over and park. A middle aged woman got out carrying her hat and a clipboard. I expected to see her head for the first door, what a miserable job, for the few moments of pleasure and joy there are many rude and ugly people to cull first. Instead she walked to me, she was running for the local Jr. College Board. I asked my question: “Are you a Democrat or a Republican” She answered “Democrat but” I stopped her, “no butts, being a Democrat tells me everything I need to know about your character and how you would do your job.” Forty years ago that wasn’t true there were still some sane and moral Republicans, we might have disagreed on what was the best policy but most of those disagreements were on the edges not as stark as the rule of law v the rule of power.

BTW, her but was the office was non partisan.
