Times of Israel: "IDF rescues 4 hostages alive in stunning operation in central Gaza" [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-08 The Times of Israel is reporting four hostages rescued alive during a raid in Nuseirat. The rescued hostages are all in good condition, according to initial medical assessments. They were taken to Tel Hashomer Hospital for further evaluation. As I’ve watched the negotiations over the past six weeks, I’ve had to assume that most of the hostages are dead. I’m very glad to see some of them are still alive and ostensibly in decent condition. I do note that Noa Argamani — the only female hostage rescued — was held separately from the others and the article does not go into any sort of detail as to the assaults she may have endured. It is standard IDF policy to not disclose much until the victims are debriefed and their consent to tell the story is obtained, however, so it’s too early to breathe that sigh of relief. Assuming their condition is as reported, it is not consistent with what other hostages have endured and described, meaning we likely have more evidence of the theory that one of the major stumbling blocks to the ceasefire negotiations is that the hostages are being held by various groups, some more radical than the others. Not only can Hamas leadership not guarantee the release of these hostages should a deal be reached, but the hostages may very well have experienced things that would only serve to further enrage Israel. You may recall the Nuseirat was the site of the recent bombing at the UNRWA “block 2” school. UNRWA claims that at least 33 people were killed in that strike, while the IDF states that a large number of those killed were known to be active Hamas combatants. It now seems the combat in and around Nuseirat was at least partially in service of these rescues.
