Vacate the Speakership [1]

The last time the wing nuts tried to dump Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House, the Democrats stepped in to save him. That was entirely appropriate because it was part of a deal. Bring Ukraine aid to the floor and we will protect you from MTG getting you kicked out. It would be reasonable to do the same thing again if there were a a critical piece of legislation that needed to get done, and it was necessary to protect Johnson in order to get it to the floor. But we are talking about one time deals.

Johnson continues to be a Trump Toadie. He says the 2020 election was stolen. He voted against certifying that election. He lies about Biden and other Democrats on a regular basis. He supports the failed attempts to impeach Biden. Just a week ago he appointed Scott Perry and Ronny Jackson to the house intelligence committee where they will be entitled to see critical classified information and leak or sell it. Mike Johnson is the enemy and should be treated as such. Democrats have no ongoing reason to keep him in the speaker’s chair. They should only do so on a one time basis in return for a specified price.

Around the end of September or the beginning of November, House Democrats should make their own motion to vacate the chair. At least a few of the MAGA nutcases will join in and dump him. Then we can all watch the spectacle of the Republican majority flailing and failing to elect a speaker for the month leading up to the election. That alone might be enough to ensure a Democratic majority in the House.
