Fathers and sons... [1]

So, sons and fathers.

My father to say the least was.... distant, not involved.

He had cancer that wasn't going well.

So, on Memorial Day Weekend took his gun,

went out on the deck and shot himself.

He had been a Major in the Air Force, a pilot, and an Aircraft Commander, who after retirement flew on an airplane a very few times.

I didn't know him very well.

He didn't share.

But I was talking to a younger retired Air Force officer, he was in his late forties.

I told him that my father had flown B 47 nuclear armed bombers, and C 124's.

Generally known as old shakeys. The largest propeller cargo planes the air force ever flew.

We were stationed in the Philippines, and he flew war supplies into Vietnam.

I don't know why I said this, but said he flew in supplies and flew back an empty plane. The gentleman replied oh the planes where not empty... what do you mean I replied.

He would have been flying back dead soldier's bodies on the first leg of their journey home.

Oh, he never told me that.

He would have hated that.

So maybe I knew him more than I thought.

For all the hero's Donald Trump calls suckers and losers...
