[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-13 As much as we like to hand wring about timid, spineless and even corrupt Democrats—and, don’t get me wrong, they’ve fucked up a LOT over the years, and no doubt will continue to do so —the current House has been kind of on fire for a while now. We have a good double handful at least of really smart, outspoken, passionate Reps, many armed with a wicked sense of humor, and it’s been great to see them go off on what passes these days for the “loyal opposition:” an ill formed, truculent swarm of lickspittles and halfwits. The above picture is taken from this Independent article last December: www.independent.co.uk/… It’s of Raskin’s “Truth Squad”—here pictured Reps Jasmine Crockett, Jared Moskowitz, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Maxwell Frost and Jamie Raskin--the fine folks who have been regularly and hilariously handing the Spineless Inquisition its collective asshole for months on end. Besides the new crop, Eric Swalwell and no doubt soon-to-be Senator Adam Schiff have been stalwarts for years now. I personally have a soft spot for Katie Porter (she had my vote). Some other new and familiar names make up this newly created and desperately needed Stop Project 2025 task force: accountable.us/… “Founding members joining Rep. Huffman are Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu (D-CA), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Nanette Barragán (D-CA), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chair Judy Chu (D-CA), Equality Caucus and Labor Caucus Chair Mark Pocan (D-WI), Pro-Choice Caucus Co-Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO), Co-Chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus and Ranking Member of Oversight Jamie Raskin (D-MD), and Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-WA).” Most important, they’re not just existing in little ego bubbles on their own, constantly fighting like rats in a sack, like their “friends across the aisle.” (Empty G is so pugnacious that if she were alone in a room, she’d probably attack her own mirror reflection, like a budgie). They’re organizing, as we see here. They’re becoming, I think, I hope, a collective force to be reckoned with. “The best lack all conviction, the worst are full of passionate intensity." Well, the worst have been full of passionate intensity (among other things) for a long time and clearly will be for the interminable future; but as long as we have some of the best who DO have conviction and a platform, maybe we have a shot.
