What effect is the loud opposition to Trump actually having? [1]

Everybody here is surely aware of the massive amount of anti-Trump sentiment that is running free in public view. It starts of course with Democrats and other liberals who speak against him, but then you’ve also got the devastatingly funny (and accurate) ads put out by the Lincoln Project, an organization founded by moderate conservatives and former Republicans. Then there’s the significant number of former and current Republicans who are openly proclaiming their opposition to the Republicans’ titular leader. Add to this the huge number of influential public figures—newscasters and commentators, comedians, other entertainment people with large followings—who are outspoken in their opposition to Trump.

But then you look around and see that, according to current polls, Biden and Trump are essentially tied as far as the general public is concerned. This suggests, to me, one of three things:

1) Without all that loud opposition, Trump would be ahead of Biden in the polls by a much larger margin.

2) The Democratic hollering, comedians’ humor, and influencers’ bad-mouthing simply isn’t changing the public’s opinion to any great degree.

3) The polls are wrong, and Trump’s support is much less than we might believe.

I, personally, want to believe #3, and to a limited extent I agree with it, but I mostly lean toward #2; yelling really doesn’t change other people’s opinions, and the more we (and others) yell and poke fun, the stiffer the resistance to it becomes, and it will only be the gradual increase in the public’s awareness of the facts, led (I hope) by an effective campaign by Biden’s people, that will lead to a shift in the polls and an eventual good outcome in the actual election results.

That’s my 2¢, but what do you all think?
