Musings for Friday - Flag Day [1]

Flag Day is a holiday celebrated on June 14 in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.[1] The Flag Resolution stated "That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." The United States Army also celebrates the U.S. Army birthday on this date, as Congress adopted the American continental army after reaching a consensus position in the Committee of the Whole on June 14, 1775.

Who gets credit for Flag Day isn’t a straight forward answer. Many people over the course of more than a century celebrated 14 June as Flag Day. Two Presidents issued proclamations, but it was Harry Truman who on 3 August 1949 signed the Congressional observance into law.

One of the more currently notable names missing from this list is that of Mary-Ann Alito, but then again Mary-Ann wasn’t honoring the flag. We have all heard or read of her and her husband’admissions of their support of DJT’s J6 insurrection. What flag will they be flying today? Maybe she, Sam and TFG will make an application to Amnesty International, that is, after Sam and Thomas make their argument in support of TFG’s immunity claims.
