[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-15 Welcome to another Saturday night of music, memories, and conversations. Some people like to repeat songs, some don’t. I’m definitely a repeater. I also like to reread books, I wonder if there’s a connection? Anyway, I get hooked on songs & listen to them over and over. For example, U2 released a new song in October of 2023, and even with that late date, it became my most listened-to song of the year. I think I listened to it for at least a week, or maybe 2. It’s happy, positive, dance-y….. Best line: “Love is God and God is Love and if your dreams don’t scare you they’re not big enough” Just a couple of weeks ago, Snow Patrol released a new song, their first in six years. And I can’t stop listening to it. It’s a big, dramatic romantic one (it’s a lyric video but I’ll still tell you my favorite line: “There is nothing for me in these past lives, there is only what I wasn’t yet”). Here’s The Beginning: But I don’t just do this with new ones. Every time Shine Like It Does by INXS comes up on a playlist I made, I repeat it for…..a while And this song has been out for quite a while. I still just can’t seem to help it. But after reading some articles, I’d say it’s because it is sweet and positive, it does that dopamine thing for me. I was reminded by the REM interview (idea for a future diary — bands who are just un-freaking-believably not in various halls of fame) that when Losing My Religion came out, I just could not stop listening to it. I was actually worried I was addicted to a song. And new Coldplay, out next week — I keep listening to the little snippets that are out. It’s soaring and happy, I know it will be a favorite. Coldplay — Feels Like Falling In Love So I ask you, Saturday Night music fans — do you repeat songs? If so, do you know why you repeat the ones you do? Do you place other songs you love after, to persuade yourself to move on? (I put a U2 song I love after Shine Like It Does, so I will stop repeating) It’s normal to play songs on repeat Interesting quote from this interview: So what's going on with my biology that has made my brain think I need to listen to Post Malone's "Rockstar" four to six times a day to survive? It's hard to explain, but we know music affects our reward system. How it does so varies from individual to individual – music gets some people way "higher" than others. There are a few people that get absolutely nothing out of music. It is documentable that listening to it generates no activity in their pleasure centres whatsoever. There's no music that appeals to them, and they can't understand why other people spend time on it. But then there are people whose arm hairs stand up, when they listen to music they like. We know that this is regulated by dopamine – the brain's natural dope . There are also drugs that work by releasing more dopamine into our brains. Gentle Reminder: Please continue to include the artist and the song title in your comment. This really helps our readers who use their phones or people using screen readers to enjoy our diary. You know how this works — Put your quarter in the slot and your song in the comments. This is your Saturday night jukebox and the party starts NOW.
