Ben Braver's Campaign Has Started Out With A Bang [1]

Ben Braver is a 21 year old civics teacher who is running for State Senate In Florida. During his time at the University of South Florida Ben Braver led a 5,000 Student and Educator protest of Desantis’ discriminatory policy. This was a walkout that occurred at every public university across Florida was featured on MSNBC, Teen Vogue, CNN, NPR, and more. Once he became a public school teacher Ben saw the direct effects of our legislature’s dereliction of duty and assault on our education system. That’s when Ben decided enough was enough and he’d fight to replace the State Senator who was hurting his Students, his Family, and his Community.

Primary Issues:

The Main Theme of Ben Braver’s Campaign is Smarter Growth for Florida. Due to under-investment in our critical infrastructure and unmanaged growth, Florida’s Republican legislators have priced hard working Americans out of our State. By investing in walkable cities, public transportation, an exemplary education system, and a Department of Labor we will return Florida to the hands of its citizens.

Walkable Cities

Efficiently planned towns lower housing costs, are more resilient to climate change, and can handle the 8,000 new residents coming to Florida each week. To ensure access to homes that are affordable and safe we need to build more densely with less reliance on cars.

Education

There are 5,000 teacher vacancies across Florida, a direct result of having the 50th worst teacher pay in the country. We must invest in our children so they can meet their full potential and end the privatization effort that sells our children's’ future to the lowest bidder.

Public Transportation

Light Rails systems along with local transit can help to reduce traffic and boost the economic opportunity of every community it touches. It is cheaper than endless road expansion and better for our environment.

DOL

Without a Department of Labor, Florida can’t adequately enforce the Labor Laws we already have in place. Wage theft is happening all the time but the employees are expected to find and prosecute it themselves. The government needs to do its job and protect its citizens.

Ben’s opponent is a major detractor from each of these causes, taking money from relator groups, sponsoring bills that defund public transit, hurt unions, and sell out our schools. We need a new generation of leaders that refuses to engage in partisan infighting and only cares about fixing our shared problems.
