IAN: June 16, 2024 - School's out [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-15 My grandson will be starting 7th grade somewhere around the end of August most likely. My granddaughter is going to be looking for a job soon. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* A Queensland cattle station that includes habitat for an endangered species has been bought for conservation and will join the array of national parks in Australia. The white-tailed eagle is breeding in Belgium. It’s been 500 years since this has happened. From Eating Well: the #1 spice to help lower blood pressure. Julia Child’s vinaigrette recipe. It’s at the bottom of an unnecessarily long story. Famous first lines. I got 14 of 17, and I’ve actually read less than half of them. A close-up view of the sun’s surface. Why maple syrup bottles have such tiny handles. Or a couple of hypotheses at least. Research on chronic asthma may lead to an actual cure. The likely explanation for the phrase “in a pickle”. Why handwriting is better for the brain than typing. ************************* I spent Monday and Tuesday trying to get my place rather cleaner. With some success, I must say. Including a load of laundry. My PT appointment on Wednesday went reasonably well. My therapist was interested in what I told her about the exercise series I found online and bought. I am standing straighter this past week than I have in a couple of years. Though I’m not confident enough of my balance to try walking without the cane at least. My granddaughter and I went out for an early dinner on Thursday. I got to hear quite a bit of what has been going on over the past few years — but that was why we went, and I promised to keep things confidential. We went to the Pastini in Beaverton, since that was the restaurant they requested, and that happens to be the location with access to a reasonable parking lot. There is a New Seasons grocery right by that particular site, and we went there after we ate and bought some desserts for us and for my daughter and grandson. Family birthday party for several in June yesterday. My youngest brother and the girlfriend of one of my grand-nephews actually on the day. ************************* Love you guys!
