Remember Folks, It's "Democrats Divided" Over Alito and Jan 6 SCOTUS (WaPo Headline) [1]

The screenshot above is the Washington Post’s top web story as of 6pm Saturday evening. From the paper that caught and killed the Alito MAGA flag story for 3 years. It’s true there’s not much we can do about disciplining the Supreme Court without control of the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. It’s certainly also true that Senator Durbin has been focused on getting President Biden’s nominees approved, which requires some Republican cooperation, rather than focusing the Senate on hearings about the Alito and Thomas bribery and political corruption scandals. But really? This is your headline: “Democrats divided...” and “Liberals say…?” Here’s a fair use quote of lede grafs, so you don’t have to waste a click on a supremely mediocre story with an idiotic headline and a ridiculous subhead. Democracy dies thanks to the Washington Post, would seem the better corporate slogan these days.

The headline-grabbing accounts of politically charged flags at Alito’s homes and a secret recording of him suggesting there can be no compromise between liberals and conservatives have aggravated divisions in the Democratic Party at a pivotal moment. Progressives and some liberal activists, incensed over what they see as an out-of-control court running roughshod over basic rules and riven by conflicts of interest, want Democratic leaders to move forcefully to address the issues. But Democratic leaders, particularly Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (Ill.), have taken a lower octane approach cognizant of political realities — the judiciary is an equal branch of government and congressional Democrats have limited opportunities to enact concrete changes.
