[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-17 In 2006 the Leadership of this and associated sites had a simple principle: it was incumbent upon Democratic office holders who were either unopposed or faced minimal opposition to give to the overall Democratic cause an amount of about 30% of their cash-on-hand to make sure that we didn’t lose races because of a lack of funds. Why did they push for this principle? Because 2006 provided the opportunity to take back the U.S. House for the first time in 12 years. Achieving a victory as wide and deep as possible was essential to seeing the end of the Bush era. They called it Use it Lose it. It raised about 2.5 million dollars. It has been a long nearly 18 years in American Politics, but we are now faced with another momentous election. Almost nothing good for the country can be expected to happen if Democrats do not gain control of the U.S. House of Representatives, and we are a tantalizing 4 seats away from achieving that goal. House Democrats in safe seats are sitting on a stockpile of more than $200,000,000 dollars, including $184,000,000 from the 59 safe Democrats who each have at least $1,000,000 in cash on hand. Since fundraising has exploded now, 20% seems reasonable to accomplish our aim. Where possible funds should be direct at non-incumbents, a slate of which we will be rolling out after the quarter ends in roughly two weeks. But even if safe Democrats just give the DCCC another $20,000,000 for ads (which would be 10% but still good place to start), it is still better to be use the money than lose our democracy, We lost the House in 2022 by a shade under 7,000 votes and there were clearly places where more money would have helped. Use it or Lose it! Let’s run it back. In 2006, phone calls were made to Congressional offices. Perhaps now tweeting or Facebook messaging their campaign accounts would be more appropriate. We have neither a dollar nor a moment to waste.
