[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-17 Steve Bannon, the GOP’s infamous Otis impersonator, was sentenced to 4 months in prison for contempt of Congress. According to insiders (the Federal Bureau of Prisons is staying tight-lipped) instead of going to the cushiest of Club Fed facilities as his attorneys had hoped, he’ll be reporting to FCI Dunbury, the minimum security prison in Danbury, Connecticut. Fittingly, this is the facility at which Robert Henry Best served most of his life sentence for his treason conviction for making propaganda broadcasts for the Nazis. A few other notable past inmates include Leona Helmsley for money laundering (the prison has been an all women, all men, or mixed population prison at various points of its history)’ Bob Jones, former Grand Dragon of North Carolina’s KKK, who served a 1 year stint for Contempt of Congress in 1969 (I guess Contempt of Congress just isn’t the crime it used to be); Sun Myung Moon, leader of the Unification Church, for tax evasion; Mafia Boss Michael Mancuso, convicted of murdering a rival; and Piper Kerman, who served 13 months for money laundering and later authored Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, which inspired the Netflix series. Bannon had been convicted of his charge but has managed to use the appeals process to delay serving his time until now. Four months doesn’t seem like enough, but at least it takes Bannon out of personal circulation for a crucial chunk of the remaining campaign season. If he serves the entire sentence, he won’t be released until November 1st. Even an early release will only get him out a few weeks earlier at most.
