Summer Solstice begins today in the northern hemisphere; for many pagans it's a time to celebrate. This day is known by different names across cultures and history. I know it as Litha.

It's a time for bonfires, barbecues, handfastings and partying outdoors. Cool fresh salads and delicious grilled meats and vegetables. It's a time for recognizing and appreciating the blessings in our lives...while acknowledging that all of Life is change, impermanence is part of existence in the physical realm. Nothing is forever; this present moment will eventually be a memory.

May it be a very good memory.

This year's Summer Solstice coincides with the Full Strawberry Moon. The magical energies being further amplified makes this day a special opportunity for releasing what no longer serves our best and highest purposes, and beginning works of manifestation for those things which can aid our progress on our chosen path. Fire and candle spells are especially appropriate; I'll be doing a candle spell later. I'll also make a special batch of moon water to use later. Those who work with or have a special devotion to fire and solar deities may wish to make a special offering on this day.

The Holly King and the Oak King do battle once more, and the Holly King gains ascendancy until the Winter Solstice. All of Life is Change, and we of course change with it.

May it be the very best change possible.
