[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-21 If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading research posted here on KOS from CAWFEEMUG — you really are missing out. CAWFEEMUG alerted me to this Guardian article and I had to share it. Thank you cawfeemug!!! https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/jun/20/what-if-there-just-is-no-solution-how-we-are-all-in-denial-about-the-climate-crisis Here in a paragraph is the pure gold of wisdom offered. Denial is, of course, part of our everyday behaviour, and DeLay has many examples. Teenagers act recklessly because they deny their own morality, someone who will not go to the doctor when they know they should is in denial and so, too, are people who have affairs and buy expensive cars because they cannot face up to how unsatisfying their life is. But when it comes to climate, there is too much focus on denial as “conscious belief”, DeLay thinks. “We talk as if we are Protestants who think you get saved by having the correct thoughts about the big important question.” Unlike Tad DeLay I think Climate Change is an old faded view of where we are. I vociferously believe and point out the obvious that we are in Extinction. But the psychology is the same. I am willing to wager that DeLay would not have been published had he illuminated how this is extinction. Welcome to the comment section of every post ever made on climate change. Armchair experts arguing over nuances of definitions. Astute observers of the human condition demanding that “saying this is extinction will only speed up our demise because people won’t take action.” This really is extinction — weather you like it or not. The Dashboard says it all — in order to avoid extinction, the graphs would need to be moving in a downward direction. And lest we forget — there are things called tipping points — levels of heat and emission that there is no coming back from. We have crossed too many. Here is one graph to illustrate the state of affairs If you can thread a path for 8 billion people to live at the top of that graph — wow! There are a ton of graphs that all say the same thing — but you don’t wanna look https://www.climate.gov/climatedashboard Climate Change is EXPONENTIAL meaning the rate and degree of change is not gradual — it is rather — run away interest compounded at a higher rate. The loan shark is winning and there isn’t money to bail you out. We can read articles here on KOS about high carbon levels and brain dysfunction just don’t go to the end zone where it kills us. We can read comment and post on emissions, ice melt, methane release, species extinction (except human) we can talk about humans lack of response to the crisis — just keep the extinction part a good 100 years off.
