WYFP: Federal Agencies Under Attack In SCOTUS Cases [1]

The recent outcry over Garland v. Cargill was warranted, but not for the reason many people stated.

SCOTUS is taking a cudgel to our regulatory agencies.

Behind too many cases brought before the court, the underlying motive for many appear to be diminishing and restraining federal agencies from keeping us safe.

ATF Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms was created July 1, 1972 as an independent bureau within the Treasury department after being encompassed in the IRS.

CFPB Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is an independent agency created July 11, 2011.

EPA Environmental Protection Agency was created December 2, 1970 as an independent agency overseeing assessment, research and education.

SEC Securities & Exchange Commission was created June 6, 1934 to enforce the law against market manipulation.

The big ones are the cases concerning the EPA, Loper Bright Enterprises v Raimondo Relentless Inc v Dept Of Commerce & Ohio v EPA.

The Loper Bright case has been brought by Koch Industries and Leonard Leo and is the most problematic due to the refusal of Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself.

The majority of Americans ignore the importance of our regulatory agencies because we take them for granted and our media largely ignores them as “process stories” but, we’d quickly be confronted by their importance if they went away.

The Rahimi case was decided yesterday, I guess even condoning guns for dealers is a bridge too far for the Robert’s court.
