Because of Medicare and My Union Health Insurance, Medical Isn’t Even Part of My Budget [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-23 I’m either very lucky or have planned very well, because I have the best medical health insurance in America. I’m retired from the motion picture industry and a retired member of a IATSE motion picture union. My union health plan and Medicare, means I pay $5 for doctor visits and virtually nothing for whatever comes after. That $5 allows me to go to almost any doctor in America. Last year I had a hernia operation, my total costs, including prescriptions, was less than $20. That’s right, less than $20. Most of my prescriptions cost, at most, $12/ three months and many less. Why do our elected officials continue to allow the medical industry to suck the hard earned dollars from the pockets of hard working Americas, just so the medical industry, doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies can get richer? The answer is simple, our elected are in their pockets. Virtually every person in every country pays less for the same medications than we in America? Why are we Americans paying higher costs, so others can pay less? Perhaps it’s time to financially support future doctor’s education, perhaps it’s time for our elected to find ways to support and limit the costs of simply allowing us to enjoy life! Virtually every other affluent nation has some form of healthcare that gives its citizens good healthcare at a fair and reasonable cost. Sure, some countries are better and some are worse than what we have, but we, you and I, are trapped in a system that says money is more important than you. I ask you, is this right? This year we’re having a national election, so write, call and confront those who want your vote, with the question, “What will you do to improve my life by lowering my healthcare costs”?
