Kitchen Table Kibitzing ~ 6.24.24 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-24 6.24.24. That’s a great date, isn’t it? Even if it is a Monday. I was sick most of last week. I think I’ve said that I’m withdrawing from an antidepressant I’ve been taking for about 5 years because I started taking a magic one. This new one, Auvelity, starts working within 10 days and at the year mark in studies, 95% of people feel better. It is absolutely amazing. I found out about it several years ago while it was still being studied and I couldn’t wait until it was approved. So, I’m on it. Thing is, I don’t want to be on a bunch of drugs and asked if I could get off the other anti-depressant I am taking. My doc cut my dose by 1/3rd and checked in on me after 3 weeks. OMG! It wasn’t until then that she told me that withdrawing from that first anti-depressant was very similar to opioid withdrawal. Which is not what I’m writing about. I’m writing about how I didn’t leave my house for 4 days because I felt like shit and when I did leave someone had put speed bumps/humps on the road I drive to exit my neighborhood. wtf? I don’t mind slowing down to 15 in a school zone, but I think having to slow down to 3mph is a bit much. I’ve asked around the neighborhood and most seem to hate these humps and didn’t ask for them. Speed humps can damage a cars suspension, shocks, exhaust system and ruin your tires. They also pose problems for emergency vehicles. They can increase a cars emission and cause environmental damage. And they cost around 10,000 per hump! There are at least ________ there, I’ll have to count. Speed bumps have limited effectiveness: They only modestly reduce average speeds and their impact is localized. Unintended consequences exist: Speed bumps can pose safety risks, increase noise pollution, and impact traffic flow. Alternatives offer promise: Street design strategies, traffic management systems, and community engagement can be more effective. Investment in comprehensive programs is crucial: Combining diverse solutions offers the best chance for success. The future is data-driven and connected: Smart technologies and data analytics will play a key role in traffic calming. www.cheapinsurance.com/... The US Department of Transportation has some fun alternatives to road humps. There are those signs that tell you how fast you are going. I love those, though I will admit sometimes I speed up just to see how fast I can go. They also have roundabouts, who doesn’t like a good round about? (that website shows pictures of humps and bumps for brilliant delineation) They have something on that page that talks about “road diets” too. I have no clue what that means, but I like the sound of it. Emerging technologies and innovative approaches to speed reduction. New technologies are emerging that could revolutionize traffic calming. These include: Smart traffic lights: These lights can adjust traffic flow in real-time to improve safety and reduce congestion. Connected vehicles: These vehicles can communicate with each other and with infrastructure to avoid collisions and improve traffic flow. Automated enforcement: This could involve using cameras to enforce speed limits and other traffic laws. The role of data analytics and smart city initiatives. Data analytics can play a vital role in the future of traffic calming. By collecting and analyzing data on traffic patterns and crashes, cities can develop more targeted and effective traffic calming strategies. Additionally, smart city initiatives, such as connected infrastructure and autonomous vehicles, can help to further improve traffic safety and reduce the need for physical calming devices. Building sustainable and equitable transportation systems for all. The ultimate goal of traffic calming is to create sustainable and equitable transportation systems that are safe for everyone. This means investing in infrastructure that supports walking, cycling, and public transit, as well as reducing car dependence. Additionally, it means ensuring that traffic calming measures are implemented in a way that does not disproportionately impact certain communities. www.cheapinsurance.com/… me- pretty good info for an insurance site, eh? I think the city put these humps in because someone requested them, and I don’t think they (the city) did enough data analysis to see if humps were really needed. Pretty sure I know who asked for them too. A comprehensive traffic calming program that includes a variety of measures is likely to be more effective than relying solely on speed bumps. Such programs can help to create safer streets for everyone and reduce the overall cost of traffic crashes. Community engagement and education can play a crucial role in reducing speeding. By working with residents to develop solutions and raise awareness of speeding issues, communities can create a safer environment for everyone. www.cheapinsurance.com/...
