The findings in JAMA Pediatrics show that infant deaths rose after Texas’ Senate Bill 8, which banned all abortion after about six weeks from conception. S.B. 8 became Texas law in 2021

In 2021, 1,985 Texas infants died before their first birthday. In 2022, after the 6 week heartbeat bill passed, 2,240 Texas infants died due to abnormalities or problem pregnancies. A 12.9% increase. Texas saw a 23% increase in infant deaths in the 1st 2 years of the bill. The rest of the nation saw a 3% decrease in infant deaths. So much for saving lives.

And what did Greg Abbott have to say?

They didn’t dispute it, but said that they have given these babies a chance at life. Yeah right. These are little ones who died before their first birthday. Most of them suffered. And their parents had to stand by to watch this. Knowing that there was nothing you could do. Shame on these politicians.
