Yesterday was a beautiful day in so many ways. It started at 5:00am when I stepped outside and saw a wonderful sunrise, the thin clouds were a brilliant orange color against a still dark blue sky. Around 8:00am, my daughter came out and offered to take me to town, because my truck is no longer trustable to go the distance. The truck’s transmission started slipping heavily, like it can’t make up its mind what gear to use and the engine oil pressure dropped to zero again for the remaining 2 miles home. I don’t think it will last much longer. My daughter was also babysitting my two “adopted” granddaughters so when we got to town, I treated them to breakfast at a diner we don’t usually go to. The breakfast tab for the four of us came to $89.00 plus a $20.00 tip (they earned it), the food was delicious, so I didn’t mind the bill. They had a large selection of specialty waffles that made it hard to choose, they also had several varieties of stuffed French toast, if you are REALLY hungry, I recommend the French toast, it was about 3 times more than *I* could eat! So, we ordered a banana cream waffle, a red velvet waffle and a chocolate smores waffle, all were very good, but my 10-year-old ordered the Nutzilla stuffed French toast that was just two slices that hardly fit on the plate! She surprised me and ate over half of it! OK, that $100 meal for four was worth it (at today’s prices). Next, I did the babysitting while my daughter had her hand x-rayed. She has had both of her hands operated on, but she is having issues with one of them, so off to the doctors again. Later in the afternoon I went in to have a stress-test done on my heart, they did an ultrasound and had me walk the treadmill until I couldn’t walk any further. I’ve had troubles with my ankles, calves, knees and hips since my military days and it hasn’t gotten better. We successfully concluded the testing in spite of my limitation. By the way, I started slumping like I did when I was in ICU and I had to correct my walk a couple times, but all was good. Then it was back to my “adopted’ family’s house to drop off the kids and pick up the dogs that my daughter has been watching for a friend of ours who is recovering from a stroke last week. Her husband used all of his vacation time at the hospital and was returning home last night. The dogs are well behaved and one of the dogs, Annie, I have known for the better part of 20 years. After all of that, we got back to my place and did some CTR racing on the Xbox. When she left at 10:00pm, it was still daylight even though the sun was setting. About 11:30pm, I stepped out for some cool night air and had a super clear night sky full of stars, a fitting end to a beautiful, summery day! I remember thinking to myself that all of the suffering I have had since my heart attack 18 months ago, was worth it for this fine day, I’m glad I lived to see it. Who is talking to who.
