A Significant Announcement: Kemp Reveals He Did NOT Vote for Trump in the GA Primary [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-27 CNN had a story up yesterday that I originally paid no attention to: Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp reveals he didn’t vote for Trump in GOP primary Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp revealed Wednesday that he didn’t vote for former President Donald Trump in the state’s GOP primary in March. “I didn’t vote for anybody. I voted, but I didn’t vote for anybody,” Kemp told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on “The Source” the day before the historic presidential debate in his home state.”I mean, the race was already over when the primary got here,” he continued, later adding, “I always try to go vote and, you know, play a part in it, but look at that point, it didn’t really matter.” He will, however, vote for the Republican nominee in November because that’s what Republicans do (courageous people like Adam Kinzinger being the all-too-rare exception these days). As I say, I ignored it. But this morning, Heather Cox Richardson made a very astute observation (one that can only be read if you subscribe to her newsletter, which we do, so there’s no link): On CNN tonight, Georgia governor Brian Kemp told Kaitlan [sic] Collins he did not vote for Trump in his state’s Republican primary, although he said he would “support the ticket” in November so that Georgia would remain in Republican hands. It was an interesting statement, since he could easily have deflected the question or simply said he voted for Trump if he cared about avoiding Trump’s wrath. But he appeared not to care, suggesting that Trump’s power even with prominent Republicans is slipping. [emphasis added] As Richardson (whom I admire tremendously) points out, Kemp’s willingness to answer a question he could easily have dodged, and answer it in a way sure to make the Mangled Mouusellini furious — he values loyalty over all else except money (one-way loyalty, of course) — and he didn’t seem to care. Trump has made this campaign about revenge on everyone who ever done him the slightest harm — harm in his mind including insufficient genuflection, and there is no such thing as “sufficient” for him. Kemp’s public insouciance about it suggests he doesn’t fear The Wrath of Trump. Why, one has to wonder. What does he know that the rest of us would like to find out?
